Dr Ahmad Ibrahim graduated in chemical engineering from Monash University, Australia. He later received a PhD in Wastewater Engineering from Newcastle University, UK. In 1985, he spent a year at Cornell University, USA under a Fulbright Hubert Humphrey program. He started his career at the Rubber Research Institute of Malaysia (RRIM) in 1973. In 1990 he joined the Palm Oil Research Institute (PORIM) and later in 1994 became Director of Market Promotions with the Malaysian Palm Oil Promotion Council. He has worked as VP of Research at SIRIM and VP at the Malaysia University of Science and Technology. He was CEO of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia from 2011 till 2014. He is now a Professor in Chemical Engineering at UCSI University, Kuala Lumpur. He has developed a strong command of the many disciplines in science and technology. Through his writings in the media, he has made important contributions in shaping the nation’s opinions on S&T policies. He regularly contributes to the NST and the Star. He has spoken at national and international levels on the subject of sustainability and innovation. Lately, as Fraunhofer Senior Advisor Malaysia, he has written many articles on topics related to Industry 4.0 and the digital economy. He has also spoken on the topic as a member of a German Delegation on Industry 4.0 visiting Malaysia. His current passion, which he has developed through his strong association with the Fraunhofer Network, is big data intelligence and its implications on smart cities and urban planning.
